For anyone who has ever at some point contemplated going under the knife (and even for those who haven’t), there is a show you MUST watch.

***Spoiler Alert!!***

Wildly addictive, Nip/Tuck (9:00 p.m. on CTV) is undoubtedly one of the edgiest, most clever (and most graphic) shows on TV. After an agonizing wait, it’s back for another year and if the season premier is any indication, this season is poised to shock us even more than the one before (if that’s even possible).

The premise is simple: the show follows the exploits and escapades of two hot-shot plastic surgeons and their practice in Miami.

One, Dr. Sean McNamara (played by the brooding Dylan Walsh) is the family man who sees his life turned upside down and his marriage destroyed when he finds out his best friend is actually the father of his teenage son, and the other (Dr. Christian Troy, played by the hunky Julian McMahon)is the unappologetic nymphomaniac with the porn star girlfriend and way too many issues to list.

Throw in a shocking plot twist involving a transexual and a much younger lover, sex, alleged incest, paternity disputes, sex, a suspencful murder plot, graphic surgical scenes, oh and did I say sex? And you have got a hit show. It may quite possibly be the only reason to stay in on a Friday night.

The show prides itself on seeing how far it can go (surprising given the rather early timeslot on CTV)and it certainly did that in the season opener.

As another journalist put it, it started with a funeral and ended with a threesome. A morbidly obese woman fused to her couch, divorce drama and the like make the first episode alone a gem.

But, despite the infinite coolness of this show, there are things I just can’t get over.

One, I just cannot bring myself to get over the striking and insanely creepy resemblance between John Hensley (who plays Matt McNamara) and the king of pop himself, the infinitely scary Michael Jackson. Urgh. His character is weird enough as it is but just the resemblance alone makes me cringe everytime I see a scene with him.

Shudder.

Two, apparently us loyal viewers will not get to find out the identity of the Carver (the psycho who rapes women and carves up their faces) until the very last scene of the very last episode of the season. Bummer. The consolation? The buzz is that it’s supposedly a main character, or at least one who is featured often. My bet is on the replacement doctor working with them now.

You heard it here first!

Anyway, bottom line: this is an awesome show if you are not squeamish and can handle extremely raunchy imagery. Dylan Walsh with his constantly sad face is really believable, and Julian McMahon is just pretty to look at (besides being a gutsy actor for doing the stuff they make him do!

My rating for show watchablitity: a solid 8.
