Canadian Idol: Eight for the Eighties
2.4 million votes were cast following Tuesday evening?s Canadian Idol performance show. However, these votes were not enough to keep Ashley Leitao singing. She became the second of the top 10 competitors to be eliminated. A singer full of enthusiasm and dance, Leitao was known for her spirited performances. While her Tuesday performance was far from perfect, this talented singer left the show before her time.
Three contestants from Western Canada made up Wednesday night?s bottom three. Josh Palmer was first of the three to take centre stage and first to be sent back to the safety of the couches. Melissa O?Neil and Ashley Leitao were left hanging through numerous commercial breaks until the results were announced. An emotional Leitao thanked the judges, and the show for the opportunity to be a part of Canadian Idol, but broke down when she addressed her fans. She pulled herself together for one last song, dancing through the aisles with more spirit than ever.
It is almost incomprehensible that Leitao should be packing her bags while weaker performers continue the journey. What is the next surprise that awaits viewers? With Ashley gone from the roster, Canada is one step closer to choosing their second idol, but is the competition really based on the performances of individuals each week? Or is it simply based on which province can rally people to pick up their phones and dial the quickest? The idols are to sing 80s hits next week. Stay tuned and remember to vote for your favourite!
