Geraldine Fitzgerald, best known as Isabella in the 1939 version of “Wuthering Heights”, died Sunday at age 91.

The Oscar-nominated actress died in New York after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Fitzgerald, a Dublin native, enjoyed a notable career on Broadway and was known for playing strong women.

In real life, her Hollywood career was hampered by frequent battles with studio executives. Fitzgerald had a tumultuous career at Warner Bros in the 1940s, refusing roles and being placed on suspension by the studio.

Fitzgerald is survived by a son, director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, of Los Angeles, and a daughter, Susan Scheftel, who lives in New York.
