Nicole Richie chose to put words to paper in her new novel instead of being dragged down by the recent split from former best friend, Paris Hilton, Contactmusic.com reports.

Richie insists the new novel, which is yet to be titled, is not the reason for the broken friendship.

The novel is based loosely on the social princess’ life, but she also also admits some parts are fiction.

“I would think about the things I’ve experienced and just twist it down and make them more exciting or a little less exciting,” said Richie.

An example of one of these experience is Richie’s past drug addiction.
