Author Writes Novel About London Bombings
Author Chris Cleave says nothing prepared him for the reality of the bombing attacks in London, England, last Thursday. His newest novel, Incendiary, expresses feelings of angst and revenge on the al-Qae-da terrorists.
What was supposed to be a ficticious story of a woman narrator who loses her son and husband to terrorist activity sadly turned into a real account that affected thousands of innocent people.
Cleave comments about the events of July 7 in a report:
“On Thursday, the voice of my narrator was joined by real voices- the brave, angry, compassionate voices of Londoners responding to an act of savagery in our city. I’ve been listening to London’s reaction and comparing it with the reaction I’ve been imagining for so long.”
In the novel, which was released on the same day as the real attacks, his narrator sends a message to the terrorists. By unfortunate coincidence, her words might express similar sentiments from those who were directly affected by the bombings.
“You’ve hurt London Osama but you haven’t finished it. You never will. Murder me with bombs you poor lonely sod; I will only rebuild myself stronger.”
The attacks on London have sparked debate amongst many politicians who fear that the public is unprepared for similar events happening in their own country, such as Canada.
Or in the extreme case, the London bombings serve as a painful reminder of 9/11 in the US.
According to Global TV, Canada is ranked number 5 on the list of potential targets.
