Screenwriter Ernest Lehman Dead at 89
Screenwriter Ernest Lehman, most famously known for his work on West Side Story, Sabrina and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, has died.
Lehman, 89, died Saturday in Los Angeles at UCLA Medical Centre after a lengthy illness.
In 2001, he won an honary Oscar for appreciation of enduring work, according to E-online.
Upon accepting his award, Lehman said, “I accept this rarest of honors on behalf of screenwriters everywhere. We have suffered annonymity far too often.”
Lehman’s screenplay credits were also included in at least three of the American Film Institutes 100 greastest movies of the twentieth century.
A private funeral service will be arranged for Friday in Los Angeles.
Prior to this, the art world suffered another major loss with the passing of Luther Vandros, 54. His memorial service is also scheduled for this Friday in New York.
