Any time you can put Napoleon Dynamite in the headlines, you do it. The surprise hit of last year was honoured this weekend by the MTV Movie Awards.

Napoleon Dynamite won best movie while the man behind the hair and teeth, Jon Heder, took home breakthrough male performance and best musical performance for his memorable (and instantly classic) dance routine.

He thanked Michel Jackson, John Travolta, and Justin Timberlake.

But the biggest winner was perhaps the least recognized celebrity on hand in Los Angeles.

Canadian-born Rachel McAdams won three awards: breakthrough female performance for her role in Mean Girls, best kiss (with Ryan Gosling) in the Notebook, and best on-screen team with Lindsay Lohan in Mean Girls.

Tom Cruise accepted his lifetime achievement award from girlfriend Katie Holmes.

Jimmy Fallon hosted the show, which featured performances from Eminem, Foo Fighters, and Mariah Carey. Eminem at one point poked fun at Mariah Carey, speaking to Lohan: “You like to remake movies,” he said. “What are you going to remake next, ‘Glitter’?”

The awards will air on MTV June 9.
