Dave Chappelle DVD Sets The Mic Stand High
The second season of Dave Chappelle’s hilarious “Chapelle’s Show” began its release day with a bang, selling nearly 500,000 copies, which sets a new television-DVD sales record.
In its first week of release, “Chappelle’s Show: Season 2 Uncensored,” which contains 13 episodes, sold more than 1.2 million copies. The first season on DVD, which has been on shelves for the past year, has sold over 3 million copies.
Thomas Lesinski, the president of worldwide home entertainment for Paramount Pictures, expects the sales of the season 2 DVD to hit the 2 million mark within the next month.
Lesinski also added, “Dave Chappelle has set a new standard for comedy, and this DVD, which we worked closely with Comedy Central on, has now set the standard for TV-DVD.”
In early May, Comedy Central announced that the third season of Chappelle’s Show would be postponed until further notice after its host flew to South Africa.
Hollywood rumors claim Chappelle checked himself into a mental health facility. Chappelle defended himself by telling Time that he wasn’t crazy or on crack, just a little stressed out and unhappy with the ingenious direction the show was headed.
Chappelle has since been spotted in his hometown of Yellow Springs, Ohio. However, there has still been no declaration on when season 3 will start up again.
