Jackson told Former Lawyer Nothing Happened
Mark Geragos, Michael Jackson’s former attorney, did not leave the Jackson defense team because Jackson said he molested the boy, he testified in court Friday.
He said he saw Jackson as a target, but that Jackson said he did nothing wrong.
“He said he didn’t do anything untoward or sexual,” Geragos testified, “and if anyone spent the night in his room it was unconditional love.”
He said, in in the Santa Maria, California, court, that he became worried when he started investigating the family accusing Jackson of molesting their boy, then 13. He became more worried when he visited Neverland Ranch.
“When I was there, what I saw was a gentleman who was almost childlike in his love for kids,” he said. “I didn’t see anyone doing anything nefarious or criminal. I saw someone who was ripe as a target.”
A target, he said, that was easy pray for the family, which he said was a “pending disaster.”
“Michael should have nothing to do with them,” he said.
He was concerned that the family would take advantage of Jackson after discovering that they settled with J.C. Penny for $150,000.
When questioned by the prosecution, Geragos said he could not answer due to attorney-client privilege. He said Jackson allowed him to discuss anything before his arrest in 2003, but not after.
Judge Rodney Melville sent the jury out of the room and told Geragos that he thought Jackson waived all attorney-client privilege, before and after the arrest.
Geragos will return to the stand Monday.
He also said that he left the Jackson case in 2004 when the Scott Peterson murder case which he was representing took up too much of his time.
He also admitted that he was the one who had the family monitored. The prosecution had earlier tried to paint the picture that Jackson was the one who was having them watched and followed, and that it was a conspiracy of sorts.
Jackson has pleaded not guilty to all 10 counts he is facing.
