Actress Renee Zellweger and country singer Kenny Chesney married on St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday.
The marriage surprised Hollywood, not because word didn’t leak early, but because nobody knew the couple were even dating.
In fact, the first published report that linked Zellweger and Chesney appeared in just three newspapers, all within the week prior to the marriage.
45 family members and close friends attended the ceremony.
Chesney owns a home on the island.
“I am incredibly happy,” the country singer said in a statement. “I may well be the luckiest man alive…to be so in love with someone who is so perfect for me, it’s just hard to imagine that I’m not going to wake up.”
They met at a tsunami relief benefit concert in January, where she was answering phones and he was performing.
Zellweger is best known for her roles in Jerry Maguire., Bridget Jones’ Diary, and Chicago.
Chesney was named Entertainer of the Year at last year’s Country Music Awards.
It is their first marriage. Zellweger previously dated Jack White of the White Stripes.
Here’s an interesting factoid: Zellweger said the line “you had me at hello” in 1999′s Jerry Maguire. Chesney was so inspired by the line, he wrote a song called “You Had Me From Hello”
