The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, an adaptation of the Douglas Adams books, was the weekend’s highest grossing movie at the box office, pulling in $21.7 million.

The Interpreter, with Nicole Kidman, finished in second with $14.2 million in its second week.

XXX: State of the Union, an Ice Cube action film expected to debut high, only sold $13.7 million worth of tickets to land in third. Production numbers on the film are estimated to be over $100 million, and recouping that total will be tough.

The Amityville Horror sold enough to finish fourth, followed by Sahara in fifth.

A Lot Like Love, Kung Fu Hustle, Fever Pitch, Robots and Guess Who round out the top 10.
