Lance Armstrong Set to Retire
July’s Tour de France will be Lance Armstrong’s last. Armstrong announced Monday that he plans to retire after going for his seventh straight Tour win.
Armstrong, 33, will compete in the Tour de Georgia race this week.
His cycling career is not as important as spending time with his children, he said.
“They are at a stage now where they change daily, if not hourly,” he said. “It’s time for me to not miss key moments in their lives.”
Armstrong has been in the public eye his whole career, but has never been more prevalent than in recent years, as he beat cancer (and raised millions for the cause by selling yellow bracelets) and is dating rocker Sheryl Crow.
“Sheryl, you’ve been an amazing woman,” he said. “For someone who is the queen of rock n’ roll, you’ve been a great cycling fan … a great teammate.”
