Rage Software announced today the immediate availability of Macintosh Explorer 4.3, a major update to the first ever tabbed file browser and file management tool for the Mac. This free update adds thumbnail browsing, allowing users to preview pictures while they browse, and significantly improved file listing speed.
Macintosh Explorer brings the hierarchical, tree-view navigation style of Windows Explorer to the Mac. Combining powerful file management tools along with a unique approach to Mac file browsing, Macintosh Explorer is the first Macintosh file browser to offer tabbed file browsing, thumbnail previews while you browse and filter based file browsing. Macintosh Explorer eases the transition for Windows users who switch to the Mac, while offering existing Mac users an appealing alternative to their current file navigation
system.
Macintosh Explorer 4.3 adds thumbnail picture previews while browsing, allowing users to see the contents of picture files instead of generic icons. The file listing speed has also been significantly improved for this version bringing it up to par with the Mac OS X Finder. Other features added include: more familiar interface elements for Windows users, such as connecting nodes between sub directories and their parent directories; a new interface for tabbed file browsing, similar to Apple’s Safari Web Browser; and instantaneous file sorting that is remembered between folders.
“We are pleased to offer this update to our users, free of charge, because it significantly improves the file listing speed, which has been the number one feature request by our users,” says Paul Levine, Rage Software’s Product Manager. “We were able to bring comparable speeds to that of the Mac OS X Finder in this update as well as make Macintosh Explorer the first ever Mac file browser capable of showing thumbnails of picture files instead of a generic icons.”
Macintosh Explorer is available for users of Mac OS 9.x and Mac OS X 10.2 or later. A free trial version is available at Rage Software’s web site at http://www.ragesw.com/explorer.php, which allows 14 fully functional launches.
Macintosh Explorer can be purchased for $15.95 USD from Rage Software’s online store at http://www.ragesw.com/onlinestore.php with substantial volume discounts also available. An upgrade to version 4.x from previous versions of Macintosh Explorer costs $7.95 US.
