Mere weeks after the Mozilla Foundation released FireFox 1.0.1 to patch an International Domain Name flaw, a new 1.0.2 release came out this week fixing a newly discovered GIF buffer overflow. If a hacker is able to exploit this security hole, it would allow them to take control of the individuals computer.

GIF is a file format developed by CompuServe back in the 1980s that compresses images for faster downloading on the Internet.

Users can apply the upgrade by clicking the arrow icon that appears on the top-right hand side of your browser window or by visiting http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/.

Mozilla’s FireFox web browser continues its torrid growth pace, taking away market share from the spy-ware ridden Microsoft Internet Explorer.
