Al Qaeda Wanted Russell Crowe: Report
Russell Crowe, the Oscar winning Gladiator actor, may have been the target of al Qaeda in early 2001.
He said the terrorist organization was trying to “culturally destabilize” America.
He told GQ that he received protection through the FBI while filming parts of A Beautiful Mind and Master and Commander, and had undercover agents accompany him to the Golden Globes in 2001.
He said he received threats and believed they were from al Qaeda.
Interestingly enough, Crowe isn’t even an American. He is based out of Australia and was born in New Zealand.
Crowe says he may have been one of many targeted.
“I don’t think that I was the only person,” he said. “It was about taking iconographic Americans out of the picture as a sort of cultural-destabilization plan,”
The FBI then thought they may have gotten the information from an unreliable source.
The interview with Crowe will be in the next issue of GQ.
