It was Clint Eastwood’s night. The director of Million Dollar Baby gave two thank you speeches Sunday night at the 77th Oscar Awards?one for winning Best Director over Martin Scorsese and the other for accepting Best Picture.

Most winners were surprises. Scorsese was favoured to win Best Director for his film, The Aviator. Best Picture could have gone to a number of films. Morgan Freeman won Best Supporting Actor for his role in Eastwood’s movie.

And then there were the favourites. Hilary Swank not surprisingly won Best Actress for her role in Million Dollar Baby. Jamie Foxx, also no surprise, was named Best Actor for his portrayal of Ray Charles in Ray.

The Aviator had a leading 11 nominations, but didn?t win a lot of awards. The biggest win was Cate Blanchett taking the Best Actress trophy.

This is Swank’s second win, her first coming in 2000 for Boy’s Don’t Cry.

Chris Rock hosted the show and did not have to be censored.
