NBA Trade Deadline: Rebuild Or Reload?
The central theme in today?s NBA trading session was talented big contract players being traded for mediocre high priced players with expiring contracts.? There was a distinct line between the teams who are making a playoff run and teams that are looking to the future.
Many high profile players got traded before the NBA?s 3 pm trade deadline.? The biggest deal was possibly the trade that saw Chris Webber and two others traded to the Philadelphia 76ers for Kenny Thomas, Corliss Williamson, and Brian Skinner.? This transaction instantly propels the 76ers into Eastern Conference contenders.
Other blockbusters include Baron Davis? move to Oakland, Antoine Walker rejoining the Celtics in return for Gary Payton and others, and Nazr Mohammed headed to the Spurs for Malik Rose.? As well, notables dealt before the deadline include Maurice Taylor, Vin Baker, Dale Davis, Glenn Robinson, and Keith Van Horn.?
Although plenty of action took place, many deals that were rumored to happen leading up to the deadline did not transpire.? Players that are staying put that were subject of many rumors include Ray Allen, Donyell Marshall, Carlos Boozer, Peja Stojakovic and Michael Redd.
There were also many teams that were expected to make a splash, but decided to stand pat.? The teams include the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, and L.A. Lakers.
?
Now that the trade deadline is over, fans will have to wait until the beginning of the free agent period on July 1 until they see as much player movement as they did today.?
