Microsoft announced today the recall of more than 14 million XBox power cords in order to protect its customers from a potential fire hazard.

Microsoft claims that there have been only 30 reported incidents of minor injury or damage from the cords and that less than 1 in 10,000 units have been affected by this issue.

“This is a preventative step we’re choosing to take despite the rarity of these incidents,” said Robbie Bach, senior vice president of Microsoft’s home and entertainment business.

The recall is for machines made in Europe before Jan 13, 2004, and machines made outside of Europe before Oct 23, 2003. To request a replacement cord, simply visit the XBox web site.

For now, it is recommended that you turn off your machines when they are not being used.
