Jamie Foxx started his career mocking celebrities on In Living Color. Last year, he showed the world he had what it takes to be a serious actor. Now in 2005, Jamie Foxx has the proof, winning his first Golden Globe award last night.

Foxx was already a winner before the show started?he was the first actor to be nominated in three different categories (Best Actor in a Musical, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actor in a Television Movie).

Although he didn’t pick up awards for his roles in Collateral or Redemption, Foxx won the big one for his role in Ray, based on the life of the late Ray Charles.

“Can I just tell you that I’m having the ride of my life right now?” he told the audience while accepting the award Sunday.

But Ray wasn’t the big winner. That title belonged to The Aviator. The movie, based on the life of Howard Hughes, won three awards including Best Dramatic Film and Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Hilary Swank won Best Actress in a drama for her role in Million Dollar Baby, the same movie which earned Clint Eastwood a Best Director win.

Best Comedy belonged to Sideways, the critically acclaimed yet box office shy movie starring Paul Giamatti.

On the television side, Desperate Housewives was the surprise winner in the Best Comedy/Musical category. Why the surprise? It’s not a musical and it’s not that funny. Terri Hatcher was named Best Actress for her role in the show.

Jason Bateman thanked his “future fans” when he accepted the Best Actor in a comedy award. The show he stars in, Arrested Development, like Sideways, is critically acclaimed, yet its has had low ratings.
