7 Golden Globe Nominations for Sideways; Foxx Gets 3
The Golden Globe Awards have several quasi-surprise nominations. First, leading the pack, is the little known movie “Sideways,” which earned seven nominations, as announced Monday morning.
Sideways, which has grossed just $12.5 million at the box office since its October release, picked up nominations for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), Best Actor (Musical or Comedy) for Paul Giamatti and Best Supporting Actor (Thomas Haden Church).
Second, “The Aviator,” follows with six nominations and it’s not even out in theatres yet. The biopic of Howard Hughes received six nominations including Best Motion Picture (Drama), Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio, and Best Director for Martin Scorsese.
Finally, Jamie Foxx is up for an unprecedented three awards in three categories for three different movie. He’s up for Best Actor (Musical/Comedy) for “Ray,” Best Supporting Actor for “Collateral,” and Best Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries for “Redemption.”
Also up for Best Picture (Drama) are: Closer; Finding Neverland, Hotel Rwanda, Kinsey, and Million Dollar Baby. Also up for Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) are Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (which wasn’t that funny, nor was it really a comedy), The Incredibles, The Phantom of the Opera, and Ray.
The Golden Globes also honour television shows.
Up for Best Televsion Drama Series are “24,” “Deadwood,” “Lost,” “Nip/Tuck” and “The Sopranos,” while “Arrested Development,” “Desperate Housewives,” “Entourage,” “Sex and the City” and “Will & Grace” are up for Best Comedy.
The Best Actor category includes nominations for: Jason Bateman for “Arrested Development,” Zach Braff for “Scrubs,” Larry David for “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” Matt LeBlanc for “Joey,” Tony Shalhoub for “Monk” and Charlie Sheen for “Two and a Half Men.”
The Golden Globes, chosen by reporters, will be awarded January 16 in Los Angeles.
