Man Who Killed Dimebag was Obsessed
More details are being revealed about Nathan Gale, the man who shot and killed Dimebag Darrell Abbott last week onstage in Columbus, Ohio.
Jeramie Brey, a onetime friend of Gale’s, told The Columbus Dispatch, that Gale was obsessed with Pantera, Abbott’s former band.
“He said they were his songs, that Pantera stole them from him and that he was going to sue them,” Brey said.
Pantera was one of metal’s most popular bands in the 1990s, but broke up in 2002. Witnesses at the club shooting said Gale accused Abbott of breaking up the band before killing him and three other people in attendance at the Damageplan concert.
Police killed Gale, 25, while he took another person hostage.
Friends told the paper that they distanced themselves from Gale but never considered him dangerous.
Gale was a former marine and a former semi-pro football player, who played Pantera music before games, the AP reports.
Police say they may never know his true motive. Gale was trying to speak to the band prior to the show, Rolling Stone reports, but was escorted away.
