DVD Review: Wu-Tang Clan – Disciples of the 36 Chambers: Chapter 2
The last time you will be able to see the complete Wu-Tang Clan perform together on one stage is on the “Disciples of the 36 Chambers: Chapter 2″ DVD.
Released in October, the DVD documents Wu-Tang’s performance on July 17 in San Bernadino, California.
Unfortunately, it will be the last chapter, at least in terms of seeing the whole group together. Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who died earlier this month, made the trip. He has been known to skip performances, only notifying the rest of the gang at the last minute. The night before he died, he was supposed to perform with them but failed to show.
Since is also the first time a lot of young hip hop fans will be able to see the Wu-Tang Clan in concert. Many of the members of the Wu Tang Clan ? which also includes Method Man, Raekwon, Rza, Gza, Ghostface Killah, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, and U-God ? have gone on to have successful solo careers, but here is an opportunity to see exactly where they came from.
In their performance, they are able to combine their hits, their favourites, and some solo material- and they do this without stomping on each other’s words. Capadonna and Redman make appearances, but the concert is largely focused on the whole group.
The DVD allows viewers to see the movie in two different ways: a documentary style, with interviews and behind the scenes footage, or just the concert.
The special features aren’t great: Masta Killa’s “Old Man” and Rza’s “Chi Kung” music videos, commercials, and advertisements.
