The Canadian urban community will descend upon Toronto on Thursday for a full day of events revolving around the 2004 Canadian Urban Music Awards.

Hosted by R&B singer Jully Black and media personality Master T, the award show (airing on CBC Oct. 28) will feature performances by Keshia Chante, Kardinal Offishall, Ray Robinson, Motion, Blessed, Jacksoul, and Dione Taylor.

Lloyd Banks of G Unit will make an appearance before heading down the street for a concert at The Docks. Also set to appear are k-os, Michie Mee, NHL player Anson Carter, and Mr. X, the music video director who will be honoured with a Special Achievement Award.

That’s also going down during the evening gala at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, where 10 awards will be handed out. Earlier in the day, 14 other trophies will be awarded during a luncheon at Planet Hollywood. Lucid will host the after-party after the gala ceremony.

Up for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year are: Big Black Lincoln (Pimpin’ Life), Jacksoul (Still Believe In Love), Melanie Durrant (Where I’m Going), In Essence (Friend of Mine), and Ray Robinson (Missed Your Chance).

The other big award, Hip-Hop Recording of the Year, will see a few new contenders battling some of the veterans: IRS (T.R.A.C.K.S. Lament), Kardinal Offishall (Bang Bang), k-os (B-Boy Stance), Shaun ‘Rikoshay’ Boothe ft. Natasha Waterman (One By One), Swollen Members (Watch This).
