Kalan Porter caught Canada’s attention from his very first audition in Edmonton, Alberta. At first the judges were skeptical of this young musician, but after a verse of “House of the Rising Sun,” Farley, Jake, Sass and Zack were in awe and amazement. Farley even insisted Kalan would win the competition. On this Thursday’s final results show extravaganza, all of Canada watched as Kalan took home the coveted title of Canadian Idol.

This season’s top ten returned to the Idol stage, starting off the evening with an impressive medley. Some highlights were Shane’s crazy high notes, and Jacob’s insane dancing. As the show continued, the top ten made several reappearances on stage, and gave Canada a final taste of their talents. Each Idol performed a favourite song from the competition, their performances unrestricted by the competition. The top ten talents amazed and entertained us. Wow!

All of the judges had great things to say about Theresa and Kalan, recognizing them for their talent, and appreciating them for who they are as singers and as people. Zack was missing from the couch Thursday night due to a religious holiday, but luckily, he contributed various video comments throughout the show.

Ryan Malcolm made an appearance. He performed a single from his upcoming album, “Falling,” and looked comfortable returning to the Idol stage. He was very encouraging towards the finalists.

Ben announced the Idol winner, Kalan Porter, after Theresa and Kalan performed a heartfelt “True Colours.”

As the confetti fell, and pieces of the Idol theme were heard once again, Kalan hugged those surrounding him. Gesturing to the Idols behind him, Kalan said, “I want to give a big thank you to my family, and a thank you to the people back there.” What began as thousands of hopefuls lining up for auditions reached its conclusion. From “Born to Be Wild” to “I Can Only Imagine,” Kalan showed that he is not only talented, but also unafraid to express himself. Kalan told Canada, “I’m nervous, but I’m ready.”
