On this final Wednesday performance show, Theresa Sokyrka and Kalan Porter had one last chance to prove to Canada that they are worthy of the Idol title. Singing a personal choice, a competition favourite, and the new Idol single, Kalan and Theresa sang well, but the evening lacked a certain sparkle. The other eight members of the top ten were present, John Dore was in tow, and the families of the idols were beaming. And so it began as it always does. Sass had some insightful advice for the idols. She said, ?Remember, we are all on your side.?

First, Theresa sang the Idol single ?Awake In a Dream.? The performance was mildly captivating at times, but it came across as rather bland. Jake said, ?You delivered the passion and emotion of that song like you wrote it.? Zack told Theresa, ?There were some nice moments, but it was pretty dreadful. There?s a moment when you crystallize the country and show them who you are. You?ve got to find it and I know you will.?

Kalan?s first choice was the song of spiritual inspiration, ?I Can Only Imagine.? I think this song was a bit of a risk for Kalan. The judges didn?t love it, but it was real and it was passionate. Farley said, ?The song took some time to get where it needed to be, but when it did, you did what you do best. Good performance.? Zack felt differently, saying, ?That was really tedious. The lower register was really boring.?

Theresa seemed to find the moment Zack told her of when she performed her next song, the hit from Norah Jones, ?Come Away with Me.? The song track was more of an upbeat arrangement than the original, which added some fun to the song. Theresa?s jazz tone was syrupy smooth, and she pulled out her famous scat to get the audience going in appreciation. Sass said, ?I loved the phrasing you used in that song.? Zack informed Canada of his opinion, saying, ?Out of the two of you, I know who?s record?s going to be in my player all the time.? Farley added, ?I?m proud of you as I always am.?

Next, Kalan rocked out with his competition favourite, ?Born to be Wild.? This one was a winner for the crowd, for the judges, and no doubt for every fan watching at home. Zack commented, saying, ?That was the first time you stepped out and took risks, and it was rockin?.? Jake added, ?That performance was the most rockin? thing you?ve ever done on this show.?

Theresa?s farewell tune was none other than her favourite song ?Cruisin?.? As usual she had shining moments, but the whole thing felt kind of ordinary. Farley told Theresa, ?When you enjoy it, I enjoy it. You?re just such a wonderful human being.? Jake added, ?By next summer, I?m sure we?ll be cruising down the highway listening to your record.?

Finally, Kalan sang the Idol single, ?Awake In a Dream.? He sang with emotion, and seized the moment. It proved that Kalan really can make anything sound good. Farley told Kalan, ?You took ownership of that song. Really well done.? Sass added, ?I love when you kick it up a notch to the Killer Kalan territory like you just did.?

It is clear that Kalan is the stronger singer with lots of star power. He should be the next Canadian Idol, but will Theresa steal the show with her magnetic personality? Zack made a prediction, saying to Kalan, ?In a certain way, the title would rest more comfortably on the other competitor, but there is no doubt on Friday the newspapers are going to say ?Little Prince Crowned King?.? Thursday night?s two hour finale will have the results of six months of hard work and dedication on the part of the two hopefuls, but only one will be the next Canadian Idol. See the Top 10, Ryan Malcolm and the results in the two hour finale.
