Rumours are spreading quickly that Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 is engaged to Avril Lavigne.

The news was first reported in UK tabloids. The Sun reported that Whibley proposed to the pop/rock singer in California over the weekend. Lavigne showed up to rehearsals for the World Music Awards Wednesday with a ring on her finger.

However, Whibley was in Toronto Wednesday afternoon, but gave no indication that he was engaged when spotted by andPOP.

Whibley hails from Ajax, Ontario, about 2 hours away from Napanea, Ontario, where Lavigne grew up.
