DVD Review: The Ladykillers
The Movie: Tom Hanks plays Professor G.H. Dorr, a Southern professor who moves into the home of neighbourhood veteran Marva Munson. He recruits a team full of people not as brilliant as he is, and they try to rob a casino. Think Ocean’s 11 on a much smaller scale. The movie lacks a story that will have you hooked, but laughter is around every corner. The Munson character, played by Irma P. Hall, steals almost every scene she is in, such as when she slaps Marlon Wayan’s character for listening to “hippity hop” music.
3.5*
Special Features: The DVD features showcase the music, with a look into the real gospel-jazz band, lead by Danny Ferrington- interesting, if you’re into that type of music. There’s also the usual outtakes and deleted scenes.
3*
Other Notes: The only thing that matters with this movie is that it’s entertaining. There’s nothing too special about the basic plot and weak characters, but Hanks and Munson standout enough to make the movie worth watching. The ending is also quite unpredictable and hilarious.
Total score: 3.25*
