Paramount Studios has announced that they are beginning pre-production for the remake of classic 1976 comedy, “The Bad News Bears.” Billy Bob Thorton has signed on to play the managerial role formerly played by Walter Matthau in the original.

Director Richard Linklater (?School of Rock?) has been attached to direct with ?Bad Santa? writers Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, thus reuniting them with Thorton for the second time in as many years.

Filming is expecting to begin late November for a projected summer 2005 release.
