President Clinton Undergoes Successful Heart Surgery
Former President Bill Clinton underwent heart surgery on Monday, just four days after he learned his arteries were “significantly” blocked.
Tammy Sun, a spokesperson for Clinton, said he is “resting comfortably” after the “successful” heart bypass surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Doctors suggested the surgery after Clinton checked himself into hospital, complaining of chest pains. His medical team is scheduled to address mesia at 4 p.m.
Clinton is expected to be in hospital for four or five days. He will then recuperate at home for several weeks, the chief of cardiothoracic surgery said.
According to reports, Clinton spoke with John Kerry by phone on Saturday for over an hour, advising him on how to regain the momentum of his campaign. Clinton was scheduled to campaign for Kerry for two months prior to the November election, but that is now doubtful.
