Jason Greeley finished fourth on a high note. The Canadian Idol judges sang his praises as the Big Brother of the Idol family said goodbye. This seventh week was highly entertaining. Four fantastically talented singers confidently sang classic standard tunes.

Thursday night’s idol performance took on a new form with the Idols singing individual songs and collaborating for a finale. Jason began with “Get Happy,” looking confident and slick as always. He was followed by Theresa who showcased her effortless vocal ability in “Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me.” Jacob bounced on stage and kept the crowd’s energy up with “A Kiss to Dream On,” and Kalan was welcomed to the stage with loud, overpowering cheers, singing “You’re Nobody Till Somebody Loves You.”

Everyone’s favourite Idol correspondent John Dore made several appearances ? awake and asleep, empty-handed and carrying a golden gnome, even disguised as a sunglass-wearing fan. Although John Dore is always a tough act to follow, Matt Dusk did a fine job as the evening’s guest performer. Dusk captivated the audience with the title track from his popular CD, “Two Shots.” His clear tone rang through like a bell, and relaxed any tension in the atmosphere. Matt thankfully performed one more swinging selection-”Fly Me to the Moon.”

Sadly, the results followed and Theresa and Jason were announced the bottom two. Sass summed up the judges’ words, saying to both idols, “We admire you and respect you a lot.”

Theresa and Jason each performed one song from Wednesday night’s show prior to being informed that the Idol forced to leave this week would be Newfoundland’s Jason Greeley. Jake told Jason, “It’s been an honour to have you sing for us every week.” Sass said, “You absolutely have a huge future ahead of you,” and Farley added, “Your charisma is all over the place. You’re a wonderful and gracious individual.” Lastly Zack spoke to Jason, saying “If you get stuck finding a place to make a record and get it out to Canada, you give me a call bro. I’ll help you out anytime, anyway.”

The disappointment Jason felt was visible in his eyes as he treated the audience to one final poignant performance of “Easy.” With a smile on his face, Jason said, “I gotta be me.” He also thanked his fans, saying, “To each and every person who voted for me, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” We’ll miss your dimples Jason.

Next week’s show will highlight songs chosen by the judges. Who will survive to the final show?
