Oprah Winfrey on Jury Duty in Murder Case
Oprah Winfrey could be responsible for someone’s life, as she has become a member of the jury in a Chicago murder trial.
The talk show host was sworn in yesterday, and the case begins today.
“Oh, happy day,” was what she said when told she was selected as part of the 12-person jury, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The trial is expected to last just three days. Dion Coleman is charged with first-degree murder, allegedly stemming from a dispute in 2002 over $50.00.
If a member of the jury could cause a distraction to the case, they are usually dismissed, but Winfrey didn’t exercise that right, and lawyers aren’t saying why.
“I’m hoping it won’t take longer than a week, because I’ve got shows to do,” she told reporters.
