Ashlee Simpson, New Found Glory and Jadakiss will start the MTV Video Music Awards off with pre-show performances starting at 6:30 PM ET.
After that, expect all the presenters, performers, and nominees to show up on boats, as the awards are being held in Miami for the first time (not a bad move, considering 250,000 Republican protesters are gathering in New York City).
When the show begins at 8 PM, VMA organizers promise something “big.” As big as last year’s Madonna-Britney-Christina kiss?
Performers include Usher, Kanye West, Terror Squad, Yellowcard, Hoobastank, Alicia Keys, Outkast, and Jessica Simpson. Plus, we hear a special collaboration is planned between Nelly and Christina Aguilera, and even Dave Chappelle is scheduled to perform. Might he perform as Lil Jon or Rick James?
Jay-Z leads all nominees with 6 nods. Beyonce, No Doubt, Usher and Outkast are not far behind, with 4.
Presenters worth watching include: Shaquille O’Neal, the newest Miami Heat superstar, Paris Hilton, and Jon Stewart. Presenters who will be reading off the teleprompter and will probably not be worth a laugh include: Shakira, Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Duff, Omarion, Ludacris and John Mellencamp.
Some things to watch for: Will Jay-Z and Beyonce show up together? Will J.Lo and Marc Anthony show up together? Will Britney Spears bring her fianc?? Rumour has it Britney might get married onstage. We think it’s just people trying to create hype, but should it actually happen, you heard it here first. If not, we might edit it out of the article. Shameless. We are without shame.
The fun begins in Miami at 6:30 on MTV. Check back after for a full recap.
