If there is one company out there that has enough money and resources to unseat the current leader in a field, it’s Microsoft, and that’s exactly what Microsoft is looking to do in September, to Apple’s iTunes Music Store.

Rolling Stone magazine is reporting that Microsoft plans to unveil their music store on September 2nd to more than 350 million users through its various services.

Microsoft’s store will feature more than 600,000 songs, at $0.99 US per song. Reports are even suggesting that Microsoft will be the first store to offer songs from the Beatles catalog, something that costs millions of dollars to license. Songs from the Microsoft store will be available in Windows Media Format, meaning you can’t play them on your iPod.

Will this be enough to unseat Apple’s iTunes store and iPod music player? Or has Apple created something that even money itself could not unseat? We’ll have to wait and see.
