Some people told Joe Piscopo that he should run for Governor of New Jersey and he took them seriously.

This move is one of the first time people have laughed with or at Piscopo in years. The former Saturday Night Live cast member will try to take James McGreevey?s spot in office. McGreevey resigned last week after announcing he was gay and had an affair.

McGreevey will step down by November 15, perhaps earlier to make the transition process easier.

Piscopo told CNN that some Jersey businessmen approached him with the idea that he run for Governor.

Piscopo has not officially committed, but he told CNN, “I love the state enough to do it.”

He would not say who those people were, or what business they run, but he did say he is a lifelong Democrat.

Piscopo portrayed Frank Sinatra on Saturday Night Live, and even toured with a Sinatra touring band recently.
