The RIAA is at it again, this time suing 744 people, whose identities the organization does not even know.

The Recording Industry Association of America, which represents the U.S. music industry, filed suit against 744 people who they say illegally traded copyrighted music through file sharing software.

Since people can use these programs, such as Kazaa and Limewire, anonymously, they sued many people named “John Doe.”

Some people were named in the suit; people who were offered out of court settlements but refused, reports Reuters.

This brings the tally of lawsuits filed by the RIAA to 4000.

Last week, a federal court ruled that the companies who make file-sharing programs could not be held liable for the copyright infringement that its users may be guilty of. This was a huge move, since this means the RIAA will have to file lawsuits against each individual user is it wants to pursue legal action for file swapping.
