Craig Kilborn has decided to pursue other interests after hosting CBS’s “The Late, Late Show” for 5 years.

“It was easily the greatest job I’ve ever had, and CBS was very generous in their offer to re-sign me,” Kilborn told Variety. “But I simply want to try something new. I can now focus on writing and producing different television projects I haven’t had time for.”

CBS and Kilborn had been in negotiations since May, but failed to reach any sort of agreement on salary, resulting in the show losing Kilborn as early as the end of August.

Variety is reporting that CBS is looking to grab Conan O’Brien to replace Kilborn as the host for the show. However, since O’Brien’s contract ends in Decemeber 2005, CBS would have to find someone to fill the temporary spot.

Kilborn got his start as an anchor on ESPN, and later hosted the Daily Show.
