Black Eyed Peas’ Studio Damaged by Fire
The Black Eyed Peas were not injured in a fire that severely damaged the recording studio they were working at in Burbank, California on Wednesday.
MTV reports that the fire was caused by a candle left unattended. The members of the hip hop group and other staff at Glenwood Place Studios were in another room on a meal break.
Members of the band helped make sure everyone was accounted for and safe.
A studio employees and an engineer for the Black Eyed Peas used fire extinguishers until the fire department arrived minutes later.
“Only about 20 percent of the facility has been affected,” said Hank Neuberger, the Executive Vice President of Glenwood. “The fire department said that the effort in using the fire extinguishers knocked back the advancing fire and contributed to saving the studio.”
The studio stayed open and recording in other rooms continued.
MTV reports that a representative of the Black Eyed Peas said all the band’s instruments were not damaged, however, Will.I.Am told an ABC affiliate that, “Guitars, drums, drum kits, keyboards, microphones, classic instruments that we’ve collected with our worldly travels are now destroyed.”
According to the Sun, group members Fergie, Will.I.Am, Taboo and Apl.De.Ap lit candles to set a “cool mood” while recording their new album.
