Apple Upset With Real Network’s Tactics
Earlier this week, we reported that Real had created a technology called Harmony, that would allow users to purchase songs on Real’s digital download service and transfer them to several other devices, including the popular iPod MP3 Player. Today, Apple responded saying they are ’stunned’ that Real would pull such a move.
A statement released by Apple Computer today said, “We are stunned that RealNetworks has adopted the tactics and ethics of a hacker to break into the iPod, and we are investigating the implications of their actions under the DMCA and other laws. We strongly caution Real and their customers that when we update our iPod software from time to time it is highly likely that Real’s Harmony technology will cease to work with current and future iPods.”
