Rapper Nelly Becomes NBA Owner
In the Eastern Conference Finals in April, Nelly could be taking on Jay-Z, in a way. St. Louis rapper Nelly has beat his fellow rap star Jay-Z, in the race to own an NBA team. ?Mr. Beyonce? wants to buy the New Jersey Nets and move them to Brooklyn, which could take months to finalize, if it ever happens.
Nelly on the other hand is the NBA?s newest owner, purchasing some of the newest team, the Charlotte Bobcats, today.
The upside is Nelly will be able to enjoy top-class basketball games from any seat in the building he chooses. Although financial terms were not disclosed, he probably didn?t spend too much money, since there?s already a boatload of owners including former player M. L. Carr, and of course majority owner and BET pioneer Robert L. Johnson. On the downside, he bought into Bobcats Basketball Holdings, which not only owns the Bobcats, but also the WNBA?s Charlotte Sting. No offence, but that probably wasn?t a selling point to convince the 3-time Grammy winner.
?Nelly is a great entertainer and a smart businessman and those two traits will serve us well as we prepare to tip-off our inaugural season this fall,? said Johnson.
“Of the many dreams that I have fulfilled in life, being an NBA owner is certainly one of the biggest achievements,” Nelly said in a statement
