I, Robot Tops this Weekend’s Box Office
Will Smith continues his box office rampage, with another number one movie in I, Robot. The sci-fi film earned $52.3 million in this, its opening weekend, making it this week’s top grossing film.
The movie is Smith’s biggest opening weekend, and fourth movie which debuted with $50 million.
Spider-Man 2 was the second highest grossing film this week, with $24.2 million in sales, bringing its three-week total to $301.7 million.
Hilary Duff’s new film, A Cinderella Story, earned a respectable $13.8 million in its first week.
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story brought its total past $100 million, helping Vince Vaughn get a legitimate comedic reputation, earning $3.2 million this week.
Despite very few doubts that Will Smith could carry another movie to the top spot, it still exceeded early box office estimates. Three of his other film which debuted at over $50 million all earned within $2 million of I, Robot’s opening.
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and Fahrenheit 9/11 round out the top 5. White Chicks, despite awful reviews, remains in the top 10, earning another $3.4 million to finish in eighth.
