Toronto Bluesfest Cancelled 2 Days Before Launch
Though you wouldn?t know it by looking at their web site, the Cisco Systems Toronto Bluesfest was cancelled on Wednesday, just two days before the festival was set to begin.
On the site, it still has a complete schedule, with no mention that the dozens of acts won?t be heard over the next 10 days. Kyle Riabko, Lyle Lovett, Kathleen Edwards, Chris Isaak, Keb Mo, Kyprios, Wyclef Jean, The Tea Party, Cake, Big Boi from Outkast, and the list goes on.
The reason given in a press release was “poor ticket sales,” which would have resulted in huge losses for the organizers.
“My heart goes out to all the bands, sponsors, volunteers, staff and fans who supported last year’s event and were on board for this year,” executive director Mark Monahan said.
“I have been waiting five years to see Wyclef perform in Toronto,” Chris DeGrieves wrote into andPOP. “He never performs here.”
Bluesfests in Wasaga and Ottawa proceeded as planned this week, with decent ticket sales.
