David Bowie is recuperating from emergency angioplasty surgery, which he underwent to open a blocked heart artery, his spokesperson told the AP on Friday (in London, England).

It was initially thought that he had a pinched nerve. Doctors found the blockage when treating the nerve.

The surgery date is unknown, though it was after he played a show in Germany on June 25.

“Can’t wait to be fully recovered and get back to work again. I tell you what, though, I won’t be writing a song about this one,” he said in a statement.

Bowie complained about shoulder pain, promoting him to cancel several dates.
