Hollywood’s prime party girls, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, are in the ratings spotlight again since the premiere of the “Simple Life 2″ hit national television on Fox last June. However, with all of the hype and publicity the sequel has generated, can fans really bare to see the girls at it one more time? The answer: YES. In fact, HELL YES! And over 13 million viewers probably agree with me. So what is the continuing fascination America has with these two girls being plucked from their high maintenance life and thrown into middle-class society? The answer? Our instincts?loving to see those on top eventually go down; it’s extremely entertaining and in most cases immediately publicized. In this case however, situations as well as locations are predetermined making it an inevitable. If you put a drug addict in a crack house for example, one could be safe in their assumption that something inevitable is bound to happen. What makes “The Simple Life 2″ able to escape the limitations of predeterminations making it different from other reality television shows are two things, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. When you have half your audience wanting you to fail and the other half cheering your escapades on, high ratings are soon to follow. America loves identifying with the ‘norm’, the ordinary, the average mundane person or persons, which is the key to a successful reality show. Paris and Nicole have thus made the transition from tabloid cover-girls to household names.

Throughout the boob-tube saga known as reality television we have seen everything from eating a cow uterus on NBC’s “Fear Factor” to having wild animals use their natural defense mechanisms on Steve-O’s ass week in and week out on MTV’s “Wildboyz”. It is nice to see something (or in this case two somethings), that physically alone make you remain in your seat and not change the channel.

With a “Survivor”-esque meets “The Real World” concept, Paris and Nicole once again are trying to survive in rural society, this time their trials and tribulations have lead them to the Deep South. Far from the glitz and glamour of their wealthy lifestyles the girls’ have taken their pink truck and trailer and have begun their cross-country trip with the idea that they can once again endure the “hardships” that come with normality. Although both girls have condescending attitudes towards anyone making under 7-figures, naivety is not without its charm from both sides of the societal spectrum.

The show and previous tabloid popularity have catapulted the girls into a spotlight that both have never experienced before. Actual news! If that wasn’t enough, the Hilton parents are getting into the mix as well. Mr. Hilton has even decided to profit off of his daughter’s reality television success with one of his own called “777″ depicting 7 casino high-rollers all after a pot worth 7 million dollars. Meanwhile Kathy Hilton’s, “The Good Life” (which does the exact opposite of daughter’s show) turning rubes into socialites is slated to debut in the near future.

With numerous magazine covers, a record label, fashion designing, etc?there’s finally more on their plates than parties. However, we still know your roots girls so don’t let us down!
