Ja Rule was charged Thursday for driving with a suspended license and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. The rapper, whose real name is Jeffery Atkins, was stopped in Manhattan by police for changing lanes without signaling, according to the police spokesman, Sgt. John Grimpel. During the stop, police found a small amount of marijuana.

Ja Rule pleaded guilty to driving with a suspended license and paid a fine of $550. The judge did not acknowledge the charge of possession of marijuana, which apparently was dropped.

State prosecutors informed the judge that Ja Rule had a warrant out for him in Queens, New York from 1996, regarding a resisting arrest charge. The judge ordered Ja Rule to appear in Queens Criminal Court on July 7 to respond to that charge and its warrant.
Ja Rule and his representatives did not comment after the hearing.
