Plans are back on for a $175 million movie studio that will feature studio space, a hotel, conference facilities, retail shops, restaurants, a film school, a gym and union offices.

The 116000 sq.m. studio will be built on the city’s port lands.

“The creation of this modern movie-making complex will allow the Toronto film industry to fully concentrate its resources and greatly strengthen the city’s presence in the international film market,” Jeff Steiner, president and CEO of Tedco, told a news conference.

“It will also help Toronto regain the title as No. 1 film and television production centre in the country.”

This will be the city’s second attempt at a movie studio.
