P. Diddy Falls Ill, Leaves ‘A Raisin in the Sun’
Usually when an understudy takes over a Broadway role for a day, it goes unreported, but not when he is replacing Sean Combs (”P. Diddy”).
Combs, who plays Walter Lee Younger in Broadway’s “A Raisin in the Sun,” showed up for a matinee performance on Saturday feeling ill, complaining of a stomach ailment, according to the Associated Press. He went on with the show, but by intermission, he was sent home by the stage manager. An understudy took over for the rest of the performance and for the evening show.
The cause of his illness is unknown. It is also unknown if he will be available for Sunday’s performance.
Phylicia Rashad, formerly of the Cosby Show, won a Tony last week for her role in the play. Initial ticket sales have been through the roof, despite mixed reviews.
