Robert Quine, the punk rock guitarist, was found dead in his New York apartment on Saturday. He was 61.

Rich Kelly, a close friend and guitar maker, discovered the body. He said Quine died of a heroin overdose.

Quine was the lead guitarist for the Voidoids, bassist Richard Hell’s group.

He also recorded and toured with Lou Reed and Matthew Sweet.
