Eminem’s Assets Banned from MTV Movie Awards
If you’re hoping to see Eminem’s rear-end on Thursday night when you watch the MTV Movie Awards, you will be disappointed. Although the rapper mooned the crowd at the award show, which was taped Saturday, MTV has decided to edit out the end of that performance.
Eminem performed with his D12 clan, dressed as Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses. At the end of the performance, he pulled down his pants, revealing his “bare backside,” as the AP describes.
Skin of that extent is a no-no on MTV during this post-Janet Jackson Super Bowl incident era. MTV wasted no time in announcing it would not air the performance in its entirety.
This careful stance of MTV, and its parent company CBS, on what not to broadcast has been evident since Jackson exposed her right breast at the Super Bowl in February. The week after the final NFL game, JC Chasez and Fefe Dobson were told they had been dropped from the Pro Bowl (All Star game) halftime show. A video by Britney Spears, apparently committing suicide, was shown during later hours. MTV also was upset last week, when Avril Lavigne stuck up her middle finger on a live broadcast of TRL.
Eminem is just the latest victim of their new stance on censoring what might be offensive, though in this case, it appears to be justified.
