Canadian Idol Returns June 1
When the third season of American Idol ends on May 26, Idol fanatics will have to wait less than a week before the next series begins. Canadian Idol, the second season, will debut on CTV June 1.
Three one-hour episodes will air on consecutive nights (June 1, June 2, June 3), and will focus on the cross-Canada audition process.
From there, things get a little confusing, so here is the official explanation from a press release:
In the second week, viewers will watch the drama unfold as Canadian Idol’s “Top 155″ is reduced to the “Top 32″ over the course of two, hour-long, nail-biting episodes, airing Wednesday, June 9 and Thursday, June 10 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings) on CTV. The first “Top 32″ performance show will air Wednesday, June 16, again at 8 p.m. ET, with the first “Top 10″ finalists to be revealed live on Thursday, June 17 at 8 p.m. ET (check local listings).
The show will slightly differ from the first season, as seven additional episodes are added. More from the press release:
The expansion allows for an increase in the semi-final group to 32 competitors. Four groups of eight will now compete over four weeks (instead of three groups of 10), with an additional Wild Card week. As well, CTV has expanded the “Top 10″ format to allow only one competitor to be eliminated each week.
Judges Farley Flex, Jake Gold, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner, host Ben Mulroney, and correspondent Jon Dore all return for the second season. Idol winner Ryan Malcolm does not.
