Jailed Diddy Protege Signs With Def Jam
Shyne, who is serving a 10-year jail sentence, has signed a record deal with Def Jam Records, according to published reports.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the deal could be worth as much as $3 million for the first album.
Shyne, whose real name is Jamal Barrow, is serving time for his involvement in a nightclub shooting in New York in 1999. That’s the same shooting P. Diddy was linked to, but he was acquitted. Diddy had signed Shyne to Bad Boy, his label, and thought of him as a prot?g?.
According to MTV, Shyne may have recorded up to a dozen tracks before being jailed, and those songs could make up his first Def Jam album.
